Q. What times are the Free Walking Tours?
A. The tours start at 10.30am and at 2.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays, but please try and arrive a few minutes beforehand so we can set off on time. Extra tours on other days may run during busy times of the year so check the website regularly for the latest schedule.
Q. Where do the Free Walking Tours depart from?
A. The tours start from in front of the fountain by the Victoria Rooms, on Queens Road. The Victoria Rooms are just a ten minute walk from Clifton Down Train Station, or a twenty minute walk from Bristol Coach Station.
Q. Do we need to book?
A. No there is absolutely no need to book - just turn up on time and enjoy the tour. The only exception is if you are a group of 10 or more so in this case please contact us here.
Q. How long is the Free Walking Tour?
A. The walk lasts approximately two hours, and we cover roughly 3 miles. Bristol is a hilly city so whilst we have picked a route avoiding the worst climbs, there are a few inclines and steps. Fortunately the majority of the walk, however, is downhill and we only walk at a gentle pace, with regular intervals.
Q. Where does the Free Walking Tour finish?
A. We will finish by the Harbour, next to the Aquarium. Your guide can provide you with directions back to the starting point or any other desired destination. The Tourist Information Centre is nearby, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes in this vicinity for you to have a bite to eat following the walk.
Q. Is there a toilet break?
A. We don't have a specific toilet break, so we'd recommend going to the loo before the tour starts. However, we do pass a number of toilets en route, and your guide can point you in the right direction should you be caught short.
Q. Is the tour suitable for all ages?
A. Yes, we try and make the tour suitable and enjoyable for everyone.
Q. Does the tour REALLY go ahead whatever the weather?
A. Yes, whether it is sunshine or showers, we will still be walking. Please do bring an umbrella or raincoat if it's pouring down! In the unlikely event there are severe weather conditions which mean it would be unsafe to walk, we will update the website so please refer to BristolFreeWalkingTour.com for all the latest information.
Q. Is the tour REALLY free?
A. Yes, there is absolutely no obligation to pay anything for the tour. However, as we are not subsidised or financially supported by any body we do rely on tips. As such we operate on a “pay what you think it’s worth” model, meaning you don't have to pay upfront but can decide how much the tour is worth at the end. We believe that this allows everyone to tour Bristol whatever their budget and also ensures your guide works extra hard to make sure you have a great time.
Q. I would like to make a group reservation?
A. Great, we do offer private group tours so please contact us here with the details.
Q. Can I smoke/eat/drink during the walk?
A. We'd prefer if you refrained from smoking during the walk, but eating and drinking is definitely allowed - especially if you share your food with the tour guide!
